Light Novel Preferences in OreImo: Analyzing Detail, Interest and Interpretations Between Reader/Writer Stereotypes

It’s been another interesting episode again for me and OreImo, especially since the show finally tackles one of the great pillars of otakuism: Light novels and writing.

In the first part of the seventh episode, Kirino and Kuroneko intensely (and indirectly, through Kyosuke) argued with each other in proving the ideal way of reading and writing light novels. It is during this point that we are immediately presented with a light novel otaku binary composed of two stereotypes: Kirino embodies the casual reader/writer, while Kuroneko embodies the detailed reader/writer.

Balancing Two Worlds in OreImo: Analyzing the Source of the Indirect Queen Bee Complex

Before I start, OreImo shitstormers, this screenshot’s for you guys. Sake spit suits y’all well, no?

Episode 5 of OreImo, and the show is still relentless in focusing on relations between the otaku world and the normal world. This time, Kirino’s close (nope, not best, just close) friend Ayase intervenes with Kirino’s otaku life, much to Kirino’s dismay because of Ayase’s take on things regarding otakuism. But with the selfless intervention of our good man Kyosuke, Kirino was able to confront and enlighten Ayase on her priorities, which lead to the mending of their friendship at the unfortunate cost of Kyosuke’s relationship with both his father and Ayase.

My Shitstorm Can’t Be This Worse: Is OreImo Trying to Prove Anything?

I am adding fuel to the fire.

I think I’ll take this opportunity to make my stand before the fifth episode grazes your screens, so listen up, and listen good. No, I’m not rising to the doctor’s challenge, nor am I loving this shitstorm.  This is also NOT the second part of my episode 4 post. It’s just, as you can plainly see, an opportunity for me to make my stand, and I will hold no grudge on how you will take it. Probably just a curse or two.

I’ve seen the very scene that caused the current shitstorm that’s churning the otakusphere inside out. I’ve also seen the shitstorm up close based on the persons who caused it, regardless of which side they’re on. Amidst the bickering, amidst the criticisms, one question remains unanswered: Is OreImo even trying to prove anything?

Comparison in OreImo: Following Genshiken’s Principles

Before you start reading this post, please let it be clear that I prefer to disregard the incestuous fanservice during the first half of the episode, because it stirs the already turbulent shitstorm that the majority of the elitist aniblogosphere caused.  I think I’ll just happily enjoy the ups and downs of the show and accept it as it is. We clear on that? Good!

We’re now at the fourth episode of OreImo, and surprisingly the show still meets a certain criteria that I had for it since the first episode. Anyone who’s keen enough to notice will know what I’m talking about, and anyone who’s already established some sort of connection, symbolism or reference will see where this post is going.

Of course, what I’m talking about is OreImo’s undying connection to Genshiken’s tenets on otakuism.

I don’t know if I should be happy or sad that I don’t see someone who looks like Madarame being carted away in a stretcher, but oh well…

Otakuism in OreImo: The Symbiotic Relationship Between Media and Otaku

It’s about high time we analyze ourselves using the otaku realm as the basis.

The second episode of OreImo didn’t give the explanation I was looking for regarding the eroge part, but it delivered the other goods superbly. And of course, it didn’t fail disturb the otaku in everyone who watched it. If this didn’t disturb you or touch the otaku in you in any way, then you must be a joke of a fan, period. And no, I’m not taking back what I just said, period.

OreImo First Impressions: The Woes of a Closet Otaku

I think Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai (or simply OreImo), is one of the most interesting shows so far. No, no, I’m not exaggerating here. I’m serious, and you probably wouldn’t know why unless you have played more than ten eroges in your lifetime, or have been an otaku all your life.
